SUMMARY:3rd Seattle Symposium on Health Care Data Analytics
DESCRIPTION:Learning from health care data to improve patient outcomes and public health\n\nAgenda & speakers\nWho should attend?\nWhen & where\nRegistration\nCancellation policy\nAccommodations\nTransportation & parking\n\nThe 3rd Seattle Symposium on Health Care Data Analytics will bring together biostatisticians\, health informaticists\, epidemiologists\, and other data scientists to discuss health research and methods that involve large health care databases. Expert speakers will share their research on: \n\nstatistical approaches to learning from electronic health care data;\nmethods for precision medicine; and\nhealth policy.\n\nExperts who are involved in national research initiatives that use large health care databases will discuss methodological challenges encountered in this setting and share ideas for addressing them. \nQuestions? Please send them to SeattleSymposium@kp.org. \nAgenda and speakers\n[View preliminary agenda pdf]\nSpeaker bios will be posted soon \nWho should attend?\n\nScientists who are actively conducting or interested in conducting research on methods for large observational health care databases\, including biostatisticians\, data scientists\, epidemiologists\, informaticists\, and health services researchers.\nStudents\, junior researchers\, and those new to the field of health care data analytics are especially encouraged to attend! Students may register at a discounted rate (limited availability).

SUMMARY:Science in the City - Breast Cancer: Deciding a Course of Action
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that in the United States alone\, an average of 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1\,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? With many different approaches for treatment\, what happens behind closed doors when a patient’s team of doctors must determine the next best steps? On October 23\, go behind the scenes of a Tumor Board meeting as a panel of local medical experts discuss how and why certain treatment decisions are made. In mock case studies\, these radiologists\, surgeons and oncologists will use medical imagery and conversation to highlight their multidiscipline approach to breast cancer treatment. Come learn with us as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness month at Pacific Science Center.
