SUMMARY:2021 Neuropixels Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Neuropixels probes represent a major advance in neural recording technology. Developed by IMEC in collaboration with the Allen Institute\, University College London\, and Janelia Research Campus\, these probes can simultaneously measure spiking activity from hundreds of neurons distributed across the brain. Neuropixels are currently available to order through Neuropixels.org and are described in our publication in Nature. \nAt this virtual workshop\, attendees will learn how to run acute electrophysiology experiments with Neuropixels probes and how to analyze the data using open-source software. \nThe workshop will consist of both interactive seminars and virtual lab demos\, with the goal of teaching you the skills required to set up Neuropixels experiments in your lab. Emphasis will be placed on multi-probe recordings\, which take advantage of the unique capabilities of Neuropixels technology. \nWe are eager to host a diverse audience\, and we encourage trainees\, bench scientists\, and PIs to apply. Some prior experience with in vivo electrophysiology is assumed\, but applicants do not need to have previously used or have placed an order for Neuropixels probes in order to attend. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Topics\nNeuropixels Hardware \n\nWhat tools you’ll need to buy to use Neuropixels in your lab\nBest practices for handling and maintenance\nProbe alignment and insertion\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSoftware \n\nData acquisition with Open Ephys and SpikeGLX\nSpike sorting with Kilosort and phy\nNWB files and the AllenSDK\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTentative Virtual Workshop Schedule\nThursday\, September 23\, 2021\n\n\n\n\nSession \n\n\nTime: Pacific \n\n\n\n\nZoom meeting opens to participants \n\n\n7:30am \n\n\n\n\nParticipant introductions \n\n\n8:00-8:45am \n\n\n\n\nWorkshop overview and introduction to Neuropixels \n\n\n8:45-9:15am \n\n\n\n\nRecording across the brain \n\n\n9:15-9:45am \n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n9:45-10:00am \n\n\n\n\nOverview of Neuropixels pipeline methods \n\n\n10:00-10:30am \n\n\n\n\nSurgery demonstration \n\n\n10:30-11:00am \n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n11:00-11:15am \n\n\n\n\nNeuropixels hardware \n\n\n11:15-11:30am \n\n\n\n\nCalibration/targeting demonstration \n\n\n11:30-11:45am \n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n11:45am-12:00pm \n\n\n\n\nProbe insertion demonstration \n\n\n12:00-12:30pm \n\n\n\n\nQ&A \n\n\n12:30-1:00pm \n\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, September 24\, 2021\n\n\n\n\nSession \n\n\nTime: Pacific \n\n\n\n\nZoom meeting opens to participants \n\n\n7:30am \n\n\n\n\nChronic Neuropixels methods \n\n\n8:00-8:30am \n\n\n\n\nOpen Ephys demonstration \n\n\n8:30-9:00am \n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n9:00-9:15am \n\n\n\n\nSpike sorting with Kilosort \n\n\n9:15-9:45am \n\n\n\n\nPhy curation and quality metrics \n\n\n9:45-10:15am \n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n10:15-10:30am \n\n\n\n\nLarge-scale data analysis \n\n\n10:30-11:00am \n\n\n\n\nAllenSDK and NWB files \n\n\n11:00-11:30am \n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n11:30am-12:00pm \n\n\n\n\nCCF registration demo \n\n\n12:00-12:30pm \n\n\n\n\nQ&A \n\n\n12:30-1:00pm
