SUMMARY:5th Workshop on Virus Dynamics
DESCRIPTION:The Workshop on Virus Dynamics series is an initiative to bring together virologists and immunologists with mathematical modelers and systems biologists to discuss current approaches and challenges in modeling and analyzing different aspects of virus dynamics. This 5th version of the workshop builds on the success of previous ones in Frankfurt (2013)\, Toronto (2015)\, Heidelberg (2017) and Paris (2019). We are committed to keeping the health and safety of participants and the general public in consideration. Therefore\, we will hold our 2021 workshop in a three-day virtual format.

SUMMARY:BBI’s Danny Miller Conducting Seminar on Long-Read Sequencing using Nanopore Platform
DESCRIPTION:BBI’s Dr. Danny Miller will conduct a seminar at 12 noon October 5 on long-read genome sequencing on the Nanopore platform and how it can help researchers across the Institute. Registration is available here: BBI Long Read Sequencing Seminar- Oct 5th at 12 noon . \nMiller\, a pediatrics and medical genetics resident at Seattle Children’s Hospital and UW Medicine\, wants to encourage members to think of ongoing projects – or new projects – that may benefit from the technology. \n“Participants in the seminar will learn the advantages\, challenges\, and limitations of the technology\,” Miller said. “This technology works best when done at scale and by individuals who have experience with using the sequencer.” Miller is offering sequencing and support to all BBI members\, including DNA and RNA sequencing of human samples and other organisms of interest. He plans to offer basic analysis as part of the service. \nHis work on genetic diagnoses of rare diseases was funded in 2019 by a BBI “Catalytic Collaboration” grant\, which led to a R01 grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
