SUMMARY:Science in the City: The Art and Science of Making Games
DESCRIPTION:You’ve played games before\, but have you ever created one? What elements need to be considered when making a new board game for both national and global markets? Join Mike Mulvihill\, a game producer with Ravensburger North America\, to learn about the game creation process. At Ravensburger\, this process requires creativity\, but diversity and global awareness are also important factors. During the event\, we’ll walk through the process step by step to demystify the many aspects that go into creating games. \nFounded in 1883\, Ravensburger is a leading producer of puzzles and award-winning board games\, as well as engaging art and science kits. As a family-owned business\, Ravensburger has built a reputation as a trusted brand for parents and children alike. Its toys engage head\, hand\, and heart\, and encourage playful development at every age and every stage. Ravensburger’s partnership with Pacific Science Center began in early 2019. From the moment they set the ball rolling in Tinker Tank with their GraviTrax marble run\, Ravensburger has been on-site helping to foster curiosity and hands-on discovery. Whether with a life-sized Make N Break board game or participating in Railroad Weekend with a dedicated BRIO play space\, Ravensburger is there to put “fun” in fundamental science concepts. \nLivestream Information \nThis event will be livestreamed through PacSci’s YouTube Channel. Advanced registration is required\, and the link to the livestream will be sent out via email on the day of the event. The livestream will begin at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Respect and Trust during Research Recruitment
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Stephanie A. Kraft\, JD\, assistant professor at the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Seattle Children’s Research Institute and the University of Washington School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics. She conducts conceptual and empirical research on issues related to building respectful relationships in research and healthcare. Her primary research interests are in understanding how people make decisions about research participation and improving how research teams demonstrate respect to and build trust with potential participants\, especially among historically underrepresented patient populations. SUMMARY:2020 From the Laboratory to Leadership - Fall Program
DESCRIPTION:This four session program includes company and industry relevant case studies\, practical and engaging exercises\, down-loadable support tools for each session\, and a manual designed to personalize the training for each participant.  A tremendous value for a $2\,795 investment per participant for Life Science Washington members and $3\,295 for non members. Sessions are limited to twenty participants. \n  \nView Syllabus and Program Overview \n  \nIt’s an incredibly exciting time for the life science industry.  Today\, our clients are evolving at a tremendous pace and achieving levels of success that are incredible.  Whether they are launching their first collaboration\, entering the clinic or receiving regulatory approval for their first drug or medical device\, managing growth and change are at the top of everyone’s mind.  With this excitement\, also comes stress\, sweaty palms\, sleepless nights\, feelings of incompetence and increasing numbers of employee relations issues\, as technically trained individuals find themselves promoted to management roles in order to meet the business needs of the organization. \n  \nCompletely redesigned from the ground up\, the 25th Anniversary Edition of From The Laboratory To Leadership\, develops the skills and knowledge of first time and developing managers in life science companies\, taking them from competent technical managers to capable business leaders.  Leveraging the knowledge gained from the original groundbreaking program\, which has been delivered to over 6\,500 leaders from over 600 of the industry’s leading life science companies\, this entirely new program provides participants with the management foundation to successfully hire\, develop\, and deploy top talent in their organizations.  Whether you are a start-up or fully integrated company\, the program is a “game changer” for your employees and your organization. \n  \nThe program begins by providing the participants with the opportunity to define their personal leadership style as the result of exploring their leadership philosophies\, strengths and personality type.  These strengths and preferences are then mapped to the organizational needs\, enabling each manager to define their program goals and to begin creating their professional development plan.  Each plan is designed to provide the company with a minimum of a two time return on the program investment.  Foundational and more advanced skills and tools are then introduced including goal setting for individual and project success\, performance management of individuals and teams\, priority management to enable focus and efforts to be targeted on the high impact areas\, interviewing and selecting top performers and communicating effectively.  Team development\, delegation and the impact of emotional intelligence on performance are just a few of the additional areas that provide “ah ha” opportunities for everyone in the room. \n  \nThe sessions fly by\, as participants engage with one another as individuals\, teammates\, and sometimes as instructors.  The use of learning pods\, technology and your “companies as learning labs”\, ensures participants establish and enhance their relationships in their workplaces\, build peer relationships\, gain insights into real time issues\, goals and needs\, and apply industry tested business solutions that impact your company’s performance and bottom line. \n“The techniques we learned in this course helps our group be much more efficient and effective in our meetings and deadlines\, while increasing communication and that makes other group members happier.” ~ Stuart Anderson\, Research Associate II\, NanoString Technologies \n \nThis four session program includes company and industry relevant case studies\, practical and engaging exercises\, down-loadable support tools for each session\, and a manual designed to personalize the training for each participant.  A tremendous value for a $2\,795 investment per participant for Life Science Washington members and $3\,295 for non members. \n  \nSessions are limited to twenty participants.  Enroll today!
