Pandemics, specifically the current COVID-19 pandemic often set the stage and drive global research into new directions. To produce meaningful gains in research knowledge, new actions and studies in this area must be conducted using coordinated and multidisciplinary approaches, involving a variety of subject matter disciplines. There must be a clear and effective translation of knowledge in this matter, gained through studies and experiences, to members of the broader community. Balanced, rigour and efficiency of information sharing must be established considering the rapidity at which knowledge will continue to be generated. In light of these considerations, the objectives of this workshop are to:

(1) Examine current knowledge gaps and highlight opportunities for future research in this area; (2) Highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to advancing knowledge while considering EDI as a core value; and (3) Discuss ideas that can help the community and general public deal with the realities that COVID-19 reflects on the future direction of research.
