Science in the City: The Last Butterflies – Book Signing and Presentation

June 6, 2019 - 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

SITC June 6

Conservation biologist Nick Haddad has spent decades studying the very rarest species of butterflies in the world – some numbering no more than what can be held in one hand. Unfortunately, butterflies are at risk of becoming even rarer, with many scientists fearing an insect apocalypse. Although many assume we fully understand butterflies’ natural histories, Haddad’s studies reveal how little is still known about butterflies in decline, and how we can use new knowledge to reverse tragic species loss. Drawing from his own first-hand experiences, Nick Haddad will explore the challenges of tracking vanishing butterflies, why they are disappearing, and why they are worth saving. Join us early to explore Pacific Science Center’s Butterfly House, starting at 6 p.m. Books will be onsite to purchase in limited quantities. Tickets are just $5 or FREE for Pacific Science Center Members.
