Systems Biology of Aging Virtual Workshop

May 9 - 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Workshop Overview
As the global population ages, understanding the mechanisms of aging has become an essential area of research with profound implications for healthcare, policy and quality of life. Aging is a complex process influenced by an intricate interplay of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. These factors exert their effects through various molecular mediators. With the rapid development of omics technologies, we now have the ability to measure comprehensive sets of omics data, including genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and gut microbiomics. A key question in the field is how to effectively integrate and utilize this wealth of data to advance our understanding of aging processes and potentially inform interventions.

This free hands-on workshop will provide practical tools for performing multi-omic systems biology analyses. The intended audience is graduate students, postdocs, principal investigators, industry scientists, and educators.

Course Requirements

Course participants will need to register in order to receive a Zoom link and an invitation to the course’s Discord channel. Lectures will be given in Zoom and real-time tutorials will be monitored by teaching assistants via Discord. Thus, participants will need to install both Zoom and Discord prior to the start of the course. Presentations and course materials can be accessed on the course’s GitHub repository. Course presentations can be viewed on a web browser (smartphone-compatible). Course tutorials will be run in Jupyter notebooks within a cloud-based interactive computing platform. Participants are encouraged to develop a basic familiarity with Zoom, Discord, and Jupyter notebooks prior to the course. The course will assume some basic coding knowledge in R/Python — see additional resources below.
