Winter Animal Adaptations

Examine animal artifacts, including skins and skulls, in this live virtual program to learn how animals survive in their natural habitats. Put your new skills to the test as you discover which animals migrate, hibernate or tough it out once the cold, dark winter arrives. Follow along with a hands-on demonstration of one of the amazing adaptations that helps some animals survive chilly temperatures during the winter.
Optional materials for a follow-along activity:
- Three sandwich-sized plastic bags
- Crisco or similar fat
- Medium sized bowl or tub
- Ice water
- Optional: thermometer
