The prestigious NIH Director’s New Innovator Award provides significant funding for innovative research that holds the promise of high rewards. And BRI geneticist John Ray, PhD, just received one.
“Most government grants require lots of preliminary data before they fund research, but this one is unique in that it provides funding for new, unexplored areas of research,” Dr. Ray says. “The risk is that we don’t know if a new approach will work. But the potential reward is high. Way down the line, the findings from our grant could lead to personalized therapies, better diagnostics, or even preventive treatments.”
