A project investigating how climate change affects leukemia patients’ susceptibility to a rare fungal disease and an initiative to see whether a drug used to treat Parkinson’s disease could be used to treat leukemia patients with the same cell target are among five innovative research initiatives from Fred Hutch Cancer Center and University of Washington hematology-oncology fellows recently honored by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

The early-career researchers awarded with the prestigious Young Investigator Award (YIA) research grant from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation include 2024 hematology-oncology fellowship graduates and now current Fred Hutch faculty members Ruben Raychaudhuri, MD, and Lauren Shih, MD, as well as 2025 hematology-oncology fellowship graduates Jennifer Huang, MD, PhD; Thomas Kuczmarski, MD; and Vivian Liu, MD.
